CLT 240 - Molecular Diagnostics

1 Credit

Molecular diagnostics is an integral part of laboratory medicine, and it is important that clinical laboratory professionals understand the molecular biology principles that are the underpinnings of molecular assays. This course introduces those principles and provides an overview of molecular diagnostics platforms commonly used in clinical laboratories.

Prerequisite(s): BIO 148 or BIO 155, each with a grade of C or higher; or permission of instructor

Course Learning Outcomes
1.Correlate cellular structures and processes, especially those of DNA and RNA, with the test principles of molecular diagnostic assays.
2.Explain the clinical utility of various molecular diagnostic assays.
3.Describe common molecular diagnostic assays, including information such as acceptable samples, test principles, quality assurance, or instrumentation.
